Crown Point All Over Portage in Softball and Baseball

The Indians’ Varsity Softball team suffered a tough home defeat tonight at the hands of the Crown Point Bulldogs.  The Indians fell 11-2.  With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 14-1 on the year while Portage’s mark falls to 11-4.  Crown Point sent 11 batters to the plate in their seven-run fourth inning explosion.

Portage grabbed a first inning lead on a single by Haley Hodges that drove in Dani Bryan, who had doubled.  The lead was short-lived because the Bulldoges came right back with 2-runs against Natalie Korpak in the second.  After that, Crown Point never looked back.  Dani Bryan had two of her team’s 3 hits.  Kylie Someson struggled on the hill in relief.

If there were few highlights in the Varsity softball loss, there were none in the Varsity Baseball team’s road contest in Crown Point.  The No. 1 Bulldogs only needed 5 innings to pound the Indians 12-2.  The ten-run rule was enforced.  Portage (10-6, 3-5 in DAC) will host South Central tomorrow night at 4:30.

The boys’ Freshman baseball team also lost tonight.  The boys’ varsity track team placed 6th of 8 teams at the Lime City Relays on Saturday morning.  Joey Little came in first in the shot put, Tyler Monahan was 3rd in the discus, and Alvin Best won the high jump.  Tori Bliss won the shot put and the discus on the girls’ side of things to lead her team to a 3rd place finish.  Bliss set a new record in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet 7 inches.
