With the high school football season nearing its end, many of the Portage Indians football players that are seniors are thinking about whether or not their football career will continue in college next year. I thought it would be interesting to see where a few of the Portage Indians from the last two years are playing football now…
Albert Evans~ Purdue
Albert Evans played for Portage as a senior in the fall of 2007, when he was an all-state selection. In high school he played running back and safety, rushing for 743 yards on 177 carries during his senior year. He also had 18 receptions for 216 yards, returned 2 punts for touch downs, and rushed for 12 TDs as a junior in ’06.
Albert is a health and fitness major at Purdue University. He moved from safety to linebacker early in the 2008 season, his freshman year in college, but moved back to safety this year during spring practices. He appeared in 11 games last year. Coach Anarumo, his football coach, calls him “One of the secondary’s hardest hitters ever coming out of the spring.” He has gotten in to 8 games so far this season. Click for Evans’ bio.
Sam Gonzales~ St. Joseph
Sam Gonzales has played in 9 games this year for St. Joseph College football. The St. Joeseph Tigers are 4-6 with one game left in the regular season. Sam has 34 tackles and 5.5 sacks on the season. He is in his sophomore year of college. In the 2007 season with the Indians he was a TE/DL. He plays only defensive line with St. Joseph. Click for Sam’s bio page from the St. Joseph website!
Clark Mussman~ Western Michigan
Clark Mussman is a tight end playing for Western Michigan. He graduated from PHS last spring and played TE for the Indians last fall. The Western Michigan Broncos are 4-5 so far this year. At PHS, Mussman was a two-time Associated Press 5A All-State Offense. He was also the only tight end in Indiana high school football history to receive a Griddy Award. In addition, he lettered in football, basketball, and track. His college major is undecided. He wears number 46 for the Broncos, the same number that was on his back with the Indians.
